MAPPING OF THE SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION ON TOURISM GOVERNANCE

Abstract

Tourism governance is a fundamental factor in the development of tourism destinations. The aim of this study is to analyze the scientific production related to tourism governance. Using Biblioshiny and the selected bibliometric indicators, the information and the main trends in this field of knowledge are presented and mapped. A total of 1471 documents were registered in the Scopus database for the period 2017-2022. The analysis shows that: (1) the scientific production on the topic has a growing trend; (2) there are more than 600 journals covering the topic; (3) the University of Johannesburg stands out as the most productive; (4) China, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy are the countries with the highest scientific production; (5) according to the keyword analysis, sustainable tourism destinations and Covid-19 are the current challenges for tourism governance.
